Strawberry Serpentine Frog by Marcel Chase Weahkee, Deceased

$ 120.00

A grass green, gray and muted mauve colored strawberry serpentine frog with turquoise eyes inlaid to the raised eye sockets carved by the now deceased Marcel Chase Weahkee - one of Lena Boone's nephews and Anderson Weahkee's son. Marcel added a lovely offering bundle to the top of the frog's back with sinew featuring a big abalone arrowhead with coral and turquoise beads and pen shell heishi. There is a lovely offering bundle wrapped around the girth with sinew featuring a turquoise arrowhead. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frog sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning. The frog is a harbingers of rain thus they are honored in Zuni for rain is the essence of life.
