Fish Rock (Serpentine) Maiden Figure by Sandra Quandelacy
A soft grayish cream fish rock serpentine maiden figure created by Sandra Quandelacy featuring two corn maidens and two mothers - all have jet features. The corn maidens have nicely incised corn rows with a turquoise dot inlaid in the corn rows on one and this lovely wears a turquoise dot pendant and the other has a turquoise dot inlaid in the kernel area with a lapis dot pendant. The two mothers have incised clothing - one wears a shawl and the other a dress and both wear pendants - one is made from purple alunite and the other is apple coral. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies.
