The set features Mary and Joseph kneeling before the baby Jesus who rests in a nest. All three have pen shell lower foot pads with jet pigment inlaid claws. On the back of Mary's shawl are seven fantastic flowers composed of eight dots surrounding a larger dot center. The three kings, an angel and one other figure are carved in individual pieces of antler. All five wear kilts like robes that are ornately embellished on the back side. Stones and shell are intricately inlaid around the lower edge - utilizing bits of pen shell, Kingman turquoise, spiny oyster, mother-of-pearl, abalone, lapis, green serpentine, fossilized wooly mammoth tooth, gold-lip, pink mussel shell and jet to name most. Above this well rounded seamlessly inlaid band are zigzags inlaid with pipestone pigment. The top of the kilts have one dragonfly inlaid with lapis pigment then incised triangles that are inlaid with jet pigment and have a Mediterranean coral dot added to each of the centers. We have been told a triangle with a dot in it symbolizes rain. The three kings stand out for they alone wear necklaces composed of Mediterranean coral dots and Kingman turquoise pendants. As well, the kings wear a gold-lip feather inlaid to the top of their heads with sterling silver. One king stands out for he holds a sterling silver shepherds crook. The back of this king's kilt is a bit different for there are serpentine beads inlaid in two of the triangles at the top on the kilt along with lapis infinity symbols inlaid on the front of the kilt near the bear's paws. Only the angel has gold-lip inlaid wings. This set was carved in 2022 and has the date incised on the bottom of each figure along with Troy's signature.
