Cowrie Shell, Pipestone, Mother-Of-Pearl and Turquoise Duck by Darrin Boone

Darrin Boone

Cowrie Shell, Pipestone, Mother-Of-Pearl and Turquoise Duck by Darrin Boone

$ 75.00

A duck created from many bits of stone and shell with turquoise inlaid eyes and beak carved by Darrin Boone. The head and tail are created from gold-lip mother-of-pearl with a turquoise ring just above a pipestone inlaid chest and cowrie shell body. Darrin incised feathers on the wings leaving the rest of the body smooth and nicely polished. The Zuni believe the duck is a powerful symbol that embodies the spirits of loved ones and ancestors who have passed on. In Zuni tradition, duck carvings are highly revered as symbols of grace, adaptability, and a deep connection to water and life-giving elements.
