Cuprite / Sonoran Sunrise Maidens by Kevin Chapman

$ 350.00

A fantastic copper blue, teal and maroon colored cuprite/Sonoran sunrise corn maiden double carved by Kevin Chapman with a large water jar created from the same stone placed beside the smaller maiden. The larger maiden wears a tablita headdress - that has lines incised tapering downwards - creating a sun ray affect. There are nicely incised corn rows on both maidens with the hair creating the main focal point on the back side. Maidens symbolize the divine gift of the harvest, fertility, and life-giving abundance. They are highly revered fetishes representing the nurturing feminine energies, the creation of sustenance, and the connection to the earth's cycles. The corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
