Onyx Kolowisi by Cody Cheama
A cream, red sienna, yellow and golden ocher veined onyx Kolowisi with turquoise inlaid eyes that look forwards carved by Cody Cheama, the son of Wilfred Cheama. Cody carved the Kolowisi in a serpentine position suggesting movement with two turquoise dots inlaid at the center on top of each curve. There are also twelve turquoise dots inlaid on each side of the serpent's body. There are lines incised on the Kolowisi's headdress suggesting eagle feathers and as well - there are lines incised on the body - giving depth. The Kolowisi is a water serpent venerated for saving the Zuni tribe from a great flood.
