Michael Coble
Picasso Marble Bird, Barn Owl by Michael Coble
A prominent black, gray and brown colored Picasso marble barn owl created by Michael Coble looking upwards with turquoise inlaid eyes. Michael carved the slightly concave sunken eyes sockets - then he incised lines radiating outwards all around the eyes. There are arcs incised on the bird's body with lines incised on the wing tips and tail. The symbolism of barn owls is directly related to their character and how they live their lives. They like to remain hidden and observe their surroundings calmly, leading them to become symbols of wisdom, mystique, silence, and listening. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom.
