Denim Lapis Maiden by Sandra Quandelacy

$ 170.00

A blue and prominent gray spotted denim lapis maiden figure carved by Sandra Quandelacy depicting a corn maiden on one side and a mature woman on the opposite side - both have incised features inlaid with jet pigment. The maidens wear turquoise and apple coral dot pendants and share a tablita headdress with incised dragonflies -in turn inlaid with jet pigment. The incised corn rows have three dots inlaid to them - featuring one malachite, one apple coral and one clam shell dot - symbolizing kernels. The maiden on the opposite side wears a fringe shawl with a panel of five incised star bursts inlaid with jet pigment. Maidens symbolize the divine gift of the harvest, fertility, and life-giving abundance. They are highly revered fetishes representing the nurturing feminine energies, the creation of sustenance, and the connection to the earth's cycles.
