Mother-of-Pearl Rabbit by Loren Tsalabutie

$ 300.00

A shimmering mother-of-pearl long ear rabbit carved on the go looking to its left side with its right front paw lifted in animated movement. Carved by Loren Tsalabutie and delivered to Sunshine Studio in early June of 2026, we are happy to have this rabbit. The rabbits back legs and feet are carved in high relief with the front paws carved in the round. Note that there are some low spots/voids on the back left side of the hind leg and part of an outer shell were left on the rabbit's right ear, the raised front paw and body above it. Shell is not thick so this is often what the artists run into when creating a form out of it. The Zuni believe the rabbit represents virtue, serenity, quiet talent and restraint. The rabbit also symbolizes fertility, luck, and creativity. Often associated with springtime and new beginnings, these happy critters are a reminder that life is full of possibility.
