Turquoise Frog by David Chavez
A small Mexican turquoise frog carved by David Chavez with jet inlaid eyes and striking bronze colored veins. David inlaid seven jet dots on the top of the back of the frog - complementing the striking veins and symbolizing rain we have been told. Mexican turquoise generally refers to natural or stabilized turquoise sourced from northern Mexico, particularly the state of Sonora (e.g., the Campitos and Sonoran/Nakazari mines). It is known for its vibrant sky blues and varied greens. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning.
