Dolomite Six-Directional Figure by Derrick Kaamasee

$ 150.00

A muted pink and prominent mauve colored dolomite six directional figure carved by Derrick Kaamasee on top of the Zuni Village - places all around the base of the carving. First the eyes focus on the eagle's head - predominating the top - being the tallest with piercing turquoise inlaid eyes and a chest and head incised with feathers in loop like shapes. Derrick has added fur on five of the animals' faces, notably incising a stripe on the badger's back and adding a mole on the bottom of the carving in low relief with jet pigment inlaid eyes. A six-directional figure represents the six animals the Zuni revere and the directions they represent - so the North is represented by the mountain lion, the South; the badger, East is the Wolf, the West is the bear, the nether region is the mole with the eagle representing the sky.
