Zuni Rock (travertine) Frog by Enrike Leekya
A small gray and muted golden ocher colored Zuni rock travertine frog with turquoise and jet inlaid circular eyes that look up at the viewer. The frog has a cedar tongue with a turquoise and mother-of-pearl winged butterfly at the tip of the tongue carved by Enrike Leekya. The tongue is not inlaid in the frog's mouth - though it sits perfectly into the opening. The frog will come with a small tube of Epoxy if the new owner will want to glue it in place. Frogs are the result of water so are associated with the prominence of rain and are used to encourage the growth of crops. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning.
