Antler Bird, Burrowing Owl by Troy Sice

$ 270.00

We are so excited to present Troy Sice's exploration in owls. This antler carving depicts a burrowing owl - a small, long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America. Burrowing owls nest and roost in burrows that are abandoned by prairie dogs. Troy has inlaid gold-lip and penn shell eyes and a gold-lip beak then he incised dots on the back of the head and lines under the beak, then he burnished a ring around the face as well as the high points on the back of the head. The chest has incised arcs that are inlaid with a pipestone paste. Troy has also burnished the tail, wing and claw tips. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom. It was our surprise to find a burrowing owl family under the eves of the front porch where we were conducting business! Burrowing owls are more active than most owls during the day - though they do their hunting at night.
