Turquoise Maiden, Double by Sandra Quandelacy
A muted green turquoise maiden double with a prominent creamy tan matrix carved by Sandra Quandelacy balancing a Picasso marble jar on top of their heads. There is a corn maiden on one side of the carving and a young girl on the opposite side - both have jet features and share a whorl hair style that designates that both these maidens are single. Both maidens wear two implied raised necklaces with two apple coral pendants. The corn rows are incised nicely then inlaid with lapis, coral and two turquoise beads - depicting kernels of corn. To the sides of both maidens are incised star bursts and dragonflies - inlaid with jet pigment. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies.
