Petoskey Stone Frog by Michael Mahooty

$ 75.00

A rather large Petoskey stone frog with turquoise inlaid eyes inlaid to the protruding eye sockets by Michael Mahooty. Michael has strapped an offering bundle to the top of the frog's back with sinew - utilizing a clam shell arrowhead topped with a turquoise bead surrounded by two clam shell disc like beads. Michael has inlaid three turquoise dots around the arrowhead. The fossil used here has the distinctive mottled patterns left from the six-sided colonial rugose coral (Hexagonaria percarinata) - primarily visible all over the top of the frog's back. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning.
