Picasso Marble Maiden Figure by Vickie Quandelacy
A striking brown, gray and black veined Picasso marble maiden figure carved by Vickie Quandelacy featuring two maidens with jet features - one on each side of the carving. Both of the maidens wear the elaborate necklaces and adornments that Vickie is known for - composed from bits of clam shell, turquoise and apple coral. One maiden holds a water jar full of turquoise chips that imply water. There is a small jet base inlaid to the bottom of the carving - creating added stability. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
