Pipestone Bird, Cardinal by Enrike Leekya
A dark iron red colored pipestone cardinal with turquoise inlaid eyes and jet pigment inlaid mask carved by Enrike Leekya. There are minimal incised lines added to the wing and tail to denote feather rows with the rest of the body left smooth and nicely polished. Enrike has the bird sitting on a stone peak so that the tail can flow downwards. Cardinals' represent devotion, loving relationships, courtship, and monogamy in Native American lore. Some tribes think cardinals are the harbinger of rain, while other tribes, like the southeastern tribes, associate good fortune and sun with them.
