Indian Paint Rock Bird, Crow by Chris Sandoval
A fantastic mauve, gray, and brown umber veined Indian paint rock crow carved by Chris Sandoval with it's wings carved and nicely polished - allowing the veins in the stone to create the feather rows. The head and tail are carved jutting outwards in nice contrast with a small base created from the same stone allowing a lift. The Zuni people believe the crow is the keeper of sacred law. In the Zuni creation myth - when the Zunis arrived to the Middle World(what we call earth), they were given a choice between two eggs. Some of the Zuni tribe chose the blue egg and consequently journeyed to their current homeland; destined to have a life full of toil with the crow as their guide - known as the Winter people.
