Turquoise Maiden Figure by Sandra Quandelacy
A striking turquoise maiden figure with a gray matrix and one white vein carved by Sandra Quandelacy. The figure depicts two corn maidens on one side and two single maidens on the opposite side. Each maiden has a pendant - created from purple alunite, clam shell and apple coral. Sandra added a jet dragonfly to the top of the heads as well as on one side of the carving with jet star bursts added to the opposite side. The corn rows are nicely incised with clam shell, coral, malachite and purple dots added to symbolize kernels. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies.
