Serpentine Turtle by Brian Yatsattie
A lime and olive green veined serpentine turtle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Brian Yatsattie. Brian inlaid the turtle's shell with nicely shaped bits of turquoise with jet pigment inlaid around the scutes with one apple coral rectangle inlaid at the center. Brian incised the bottom of the shell as well. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth.
