Wild Horse Rock Maiden Figure by Rhoda Quam, Deceased

$ 240.00

A maroon, brown umber and muted white colored wild horse rock maiden figure carved by the now deceased Rhoda Quam - who sadly died in 2002. The maidens all have inlaid faces with faces - two are turquoise,there is one gold-lip, one clam and melon shell - all with jet features. Rhoda has carved one corn maiden and five mothers on the carving - all have olla/water jars incised in low relief on top of their heads. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies. This is quite a unique stone for Rhoda Quam to use - it is the only one to pop up when we did a search for all maidens carved by this prolific artist.
