Antler Bird, Turkey by Chris Peina
Our fourth turkey carved by Chris Peina. Chris has given this prominently cream colored antler turkey jet inlaid eyes and he incised the wings and tail with descriptive lines that convey feathers, in different creative patterns. There is a small base created from the same horn with the outer shell left on the edge of the base; creating a contrast in colors. Chris learned to carve from Rochelle Quam. The turkey is honored and hunted in Zuni - celebrated for it's gift of sustenance to the tribe. At the same time, the turkey teaches the Zuni to nurture this food source so that it is sustainable. Thus Zuni hunters must acquire licenses.
