A low-to-the-ground turtle carved from a prominent brownish cream and gray veined piece of Picasso marble by Herbert Him. The turtle looks to its left side with turquoise inlaid eyes. Herbert has incised the scutes on the turtle's shell and given the turtle prominent feet. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth.
