Indian Paint Rock Rabbit by Chris Sandoval
A striking prominent gray Indian Paint rock hare with brown umber spots and very thin iron red veins, carved by Chris Sandoval from a stone quarried from Death Valley California. Chris vehemently searches for the best stones - we think. The blackish/brown umber patterns are created by manganese and iron finding their way through minute cracks in the sandstone. Chris has carved the raised ears as one simplified form and then added a lovely bundle around the rabbit's girth with sinew featuring two turquoise beads surrounding 3 chunky melon shell heishi beads. The Zuni believe the rabbit represents virtue, serenity, quiet talent and restraint. The rabbit also symbolizes fertility, luck, and creativity. Often associated with springtime and new beginnings, these happy critters are a reminder that life is full of possibility.
