Michael Coble
Picasso Marble Bird, Horned Owl by Michael Coble
A gray, muted cream, brown and yellow ocher colored Picasso marble horned owl carved by Michael Coble leaning downwards and looking to its left side with turquoise inlaid eyes as it rests on a tree stump. Michael has incised minimal descriptive lines on the wings and tail and carved the claws on the bird in low relief. The great horned owl is named for the tufts of feathers that sit on top of its head, called plumicorns. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom. Owls are messengers from the spirit realm - bringing wisdom, truth, and understanding of the mysteries of life
