Petoskey Stone Bear by Eddington Hannaweeke

$ 90.00

A plump gray, brown and cream colored Petoskey stone carved sitting bear that looks up at the viewer with turquoise inlaid eyes - carved by Eddington Hannaweeke. Eddington has incised nostril holes, the mouth and the bear's claws. The bear's upper front feet seem to be about to hug something or someone for they are curled inwards. The fossil used here has the distinctive mottled patterns left from the six-sided colonial rugose coral (Hexagonaria percarinata). NOTE: Eddington has placed a void made from the six-sided rugose coral on the bear's right check. The medicine bear shape is thought to resemble a cave opening - depicting a bear coming out of hibernation and the pose is the bear sniffing the ground for healing herbs. The bear is endowed with curative powers, strength, adaptability and courage - powers that can influence both the spiritual & physical realm
