Antler Turtle by Troy Sice

$ 1,000.00

A magnificent antler turtle with Kingman Mine turquoise inlaid eyes and burnished snout carved by Troy Sice in early 2024. The carving was carved from a cream and gray antler horn with a wide prominent creamy area placed on the turtle's shell. Troy has incised the scutes on the turtle's carapace/upper shell then inlaid twenty eight hand made Mediterranean coral dots inside them. Troy also incised lines around the neck and top of the turtle's feet to depict the turtle's skin. We think this is an older, wise turtle. Note how the antler's marrow area is placed on the bottom of the turtle's face as well as the carving - where Troy incised lines for the turtle's lower shell/plastron. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dived into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow, due to the turtle's proclivity to go with the current.
