Ammonite Maiden Figure by Rhoda Quam, Deceased
A small ammonite maiden figure carved by the now deceased Rhoda Quam. The fossilized mollusk spiral is utilized on both sides to create maidens. On one side there is a spiny oyster face with a larger lapis faced maiden at the top and on the opposite side, theres a small malachite face near the base and the larger maiden has a clam shell inlaid face. Maiden carvings remind us of abundance, fertility and the power of feminine energy and the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
