Turquoise Lizard and Dragonfly Protecting the Village by Terry Aisetewa - Zuni Fetish

$ 300.00

A turquoise tableau carved by Terry Aisetewa depicting a lizard and dragonfly protecting the village. The detailed lizard has lapis inlaid eyes and all four feet carved in the round with the dragonfly carved at the opposite end of the village in low relief with the front feet raised. Lizards are associated with healing, survival and protection - especially of children - as well as prosperity, renewal, good luck and also masculinity. Dragonflies are the result of water so are associated with the prominence of rain and are the messenger to the creator. Both putting these two creatures together, we think the carving is a visual prayer asking the Creator for healing and rain.
