A muted phathlo, lime and sage green serpentine maiden figure carved by the now deceased Rhoda Quam depicting five mothers and one corn maiden with inlaid faces of melon shell, turquoise, wild horse rock, azurite/malachite and lapis/clam shell - all have jet inlaid features. The maidens balance small olla/water bowls on the top of their heads and have turquoise, lapis, malachite, melon shell and apple coral inlaid dots that signify pendants, star bursts and corn kernels. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
