Marble Horse by Andres Lementino - Zuni Fetish

$ 275.00

An animated cream and white marble horse carved by Andres Lementino with the front left hoof raised as the horse seemingly takes a step. Carved by Andres Lementino, the horse has good confirmation, a long flowing tail and a mane carved in a slightly abstract fashion. On the back left side of the horse's rump, Andres has inlaid one of his Zuni sun faces - this time with eight turquoise triangles creating the sun's rays in turn he surrounded the triangles with tiny strips of gold-lip. The face portion is inlaid with bits of clam shell, jet, apple coral and sodalite. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom without restraint - symbolizing speed and strength. The Zuni also believe the horse has healing powers. The Sun face on the horse's rump is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset.
