Russell Shack, Deceased
Black Marble Sea Turtle by Russell Shack, Deceased
A black marble sea turtle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by the now deceased Russell Shack. Russell polished the turtle first then he incised an eight petaled flower on the top of the turtle's back adding a turquoise dot at its center. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth.
