Arvella Cheama
Picasso Marble Bird, Eagle by Arvella Cheama
An iconic cream, brown and tan colored Picasso marble eagle carved by Arvella Cheama, gazing out at it's domain from a rocky perch looking to one side with turquoise inlaid eyes. Arvella had added incised lines all over the bird's body to depict feather rows and feathers. The talons are also quite pronounced - carved in high relief on the rock it rests on. We have heard that Arvella is no longer carving - making this fantastic eagle very desirable. The eagle is one of the six animals venerated by the Zuni. The eagle is the prey God of the sky - the celestial heavens. The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - and due to their ability to fly the highest; they can send our prayers to the great divine.
