Pipestone Turtle by Herbert Hustito Jr.

$ 36.00

A quirky new style turtle carving by Herbert Hustito Jr. the son of the recently deceased Herbert Hustito - who carved antler eagles so wonderfully. We are happy to have this small pipestone carved turtle with it's quirky inlaid shell - created in a mosaic style with bits of coral, jet, gold-lip, pen shell and turquoise to name most. Just know that the inlaid turtle shell is in no way perfect. It appears that Herbert Hustito was not trying to do a seamless job - for the inlaid stones and shells don't line up perfectly and there is nothing added between the abutments. We love the concept and hope our valued customers will too. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow.
