Picasso Marble

Picasso Marble is a favorite among the realist carvers, such as Jeff Shetima, Dan Quam, and Lance Cheama.  Since it is a relatively soft stone, it's possible to carve great detail into it.  It typically rates between 4-5 on the Mohs hardness scale.  Picasso Marble comes in a variety of browns, grays, blacks, and cream colors.  The veins running through it give the appearance of brush strokes, hence the name Picasso Marble.  This stone comes from Utah, and is formed from limestone that has metamorphosed.  It is truly one of the most stunning forms of marble!
