Petoskey Stone Frog by Rosella Lunasee and Loubert Soseeah
A striking elongated Petoskey stone frog with raised eye sockets and turquoise inlaid eyes carved by the couple Rosella Lunasee and Loubert Soseeah. The fossil used here has the distinctive mottled patterns left from the six-sided colonial rugose coral (Hexagonaria percarinata) - primarily visible on the frog's chest. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning.
