Carved by Ray Tsalate, we were happy to receive this lovely bird back in October of 2022. The owl somewhat resembles Tweety Bird - the yellow canary in the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated cartoons. Ray has burnished the wings on the back of the owl - they resemble a heart shape. The bird's claws and tail tips are also burnished. There are eighteen lines incised on the owl's chest that are inlaid with jet - symbolizing feathers. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom. It is common to feel spiritually activated when you see or hear an owl.
