Turquoise Maiden Figure by Sandra Quandelacy

$ 120.00

A green turquoise maiden figure carved by Sandra Quandelacy depicting two corn maidens on the prominent brown matrix side of the carving and a corn maiden and mother on the opposite side - all have jet inlaid features and incised hair. The two corn maidens on the brown matrix side have turquoise dot pendants and nicely incised corn rows with the corn maiden on the opposite side wearing a double apple coral dot pendant necklace with two coral dots inlaid inside the corn rows, depicting kernels. There are two jet inlaid dragonflies between these two maidens and to the right side of the maiden with a turquoise dot pendant as well as two star bursts added on the opposite end. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies.
