Dinah Gasper
Onyx Bear by Dinah Gasper
A plump golden brown, brown umber veined and maroon colored onxy bear with turquoise inlaid eyes and snout carved by Dinah Gasper. Dinah is one of the only carvers these days that adds inlaid nostrils - it's a style she developed with her now deceased husband; Peter Gasper Sr. Rather than sign this bear, Dinah has added one of her signature medallions to the back right hind leg. The couple started adding these signature medallions around the beginning of the Santa Fe Indian Market in the early 1970's. The Zuni believe the bear is endowed with curative powers, strength, adaptability and courage - powers that can influence both the spiritual and physical realm.
