Black Marble Badger by Hiram Peynetsa

$ 400.00

A low-to-the-ground black marble badger carved by Hiram Peynetsa looking slightly to its left side with turquoise inlaid eyes. Hiram has carved all the legs in the round then inlaid a lapis, apple coral and mother-of-pearl Zuni sun face behind the badger's neck on top of the back. Hiram polished the badger then incised a feather below the sun face - extending all the way to the hind legs. Hiram also incised the tail with fur - contrasting nicely with the polished form. Badger medicine bolsters one's defenses; most especially self preservation skills by focusing/guiding the spirit to be more tenacious and grounded when working towards a goal. The sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the sun face represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy.
