Hayes Leekya
Chocolate Serpentine Horse by Hayes Leekya
A polished chocolate brown serpentine with gray veins and pen shell inlaid eyes. Carved by Hayes Leekya, the horse has turquoise inlaid hooves and nicely incised mane and tail. Note that Hayes left some of the polishing compound in the incised line creating depth we think. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom without restraint - symbolizing speed and strength and the Zuni believe the horse has healing powers. The horse represents the power of the animal world literally "harnessed' for the benefit of the human race. Horse medicine calls one to expand one's own potential abilities, tethering control of the environment, inter-species communication and offers us a good example of cooperation.
