Turquoise Maiden, Double by Sandra Quandelacy
A small turquoise maiden double with a prominent grayish black matrix carved by Sandra Quandelacy. Sandra has inlaid a gold-lip face on one side featuring a corn maiden and a turquoise face on the mother on the opposite side - both faces have jet pigment inlaid features. The maidens both wear pendants - one is made from purple alunite and the other is carved out of apple coral. Finally, Sandra inlaid a turquoise, coral and melon shell dot in the corn rows to symbolize kernels. Maidens symbolize abundance, fertility and feminine energy and corn maidens are revered in Zuni for giving up their life to help sustain the Zuni tribe with their corn bodies.
