Black Marble Bird, Eagle by Hiram Peynetsa

$ 550.00

Our seventh black marble eagle with turquoise inlaid eyes, carved in flight by Hiram Peynetsa. This gorgeous eagle soars, thanks to a small base carved from the same stone. Two incised unpolished feathers are placed crisscrossing each other near the center of the tail - with a lapis, coral, jet and clam shell Zuni sun face inlaid at their juncture. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. The eagle is one of the six animals venerated by the Zuni. The eagle is the prey God of the sky - the celestial heavens. The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - and due to their ability to fly the highest; they can send our prayers to the great divine.
