Marble Horse by Andres Lementino

$ 300.00

An outstanding large gray tinged white marble horse with turquoise inlaid eyes and gray streaks carved by Andres Lementino. Andres had carved the legs as two forms adding stability and he has elongated the neck of the horse. The artist's unique Zuni sun face has been added to the horse's left front leg utilizing bits of all blue turquoise to create the sun rays as well as apple coral, clam, jet and a darker turquoise to create the face. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the Sun face represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy. Horses were once an integral part of tribal cultures, honored in objects, stories, songs, and ceremonies - symbolizing freedom without restraint. Native Americans viewed the horse as a sanctified blessing that should be protected at all times. The Zuni also believe the horse has healing powers.
