Zuni Rock (travertine) Deer Dancer by Enrike Leekya

$ 255.00

A prominent gray and muted ocher colored Zuni rock travertine deer dancer carved by Enrike Leekya looking at the viewer with pen shell inlaid eyes - mounted to a small Zuni rock base for added stability. The dancer holds a cedar cane with a clam and pen shell eagle feather inlaid to the top. The dancer wears an elaborate headdress that has a cedar three point rack of horns that are not inlaid in place for a better shipping outcome. Also there's a crown that hides the horn juncture featuring seven turquoise dots and pen shell clasps - that hide the dancer's ears. there is another eagle feather that fits snugly into another drilled hole. A beautiful sash is carved in relief - inlaid with five turquoise dots. This dancer appears to be a social dancer because he is not wearing a mask. Deer dancers show agility and speed and teach the Zuni to always be aware of one's surroundings.
