Zuni Rock (travertine) Olla Dancer by Enrike Leekya - Zuni Fetish

$ 200.00

A gray Zuni rock olla maiden dancer carved by Enrike Leekya balancing a bowl on her head while she dances with two gold-lip mother-of-pearl corn cobs in her hands. Enrike has added five turquoise dots with incised lines all around them to the olla pot carved from the same stone, then he added turquoise chips inside the pot to represent water. Enrike has added turquoise dot star bursts to the maidens apron, cape and the bottom edge of the manta dress. Before performing, each female dancer breathes into her pot, ceremonially taking in a blessing, and expressing thanks to the ancestors. The dance is performed to transform the women's foremothers’ essential, life-giving work of carrying water from the river into an eloquent dance tradition.
