A yellow ocher, tan and brown veined picture jasper turtle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by the now deceased Yancy Robert Halusewa. Yancy incised lines on the turtle's shell to signify the shell's scuts and he carved all the feet and tail in the round. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth.
