Picasso Marble Bird, Macaw by Michael Coble

$ 170.00

A rather large striking gray, brown, cream and black veined macaw with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Michael Coble perched on a a plant with large leaves. The plant the bird is perched on is carved from the same rock and allows the macaw's tail to flow downwards. Small arcs are incised on the bird's wings and body with vertical lines incised near the base of the wings and on the tail. In Zuni and broader Pueblo tradition, the macaw is a sacred being that represents the sun, summertime, fertility, and the direction of the south. The vibrantly colored feathers of the bird are highly revered and embody the colors of the earth and sky.
