Wild Horse Rock Bear With Cub by Lance Cheama

Wild Horse Rock Bear With Cub by Lance Cheama

$ 200.00

A uniquely colored maroon, muted peach and brown umber streaked wild horse rock bear carved by Lance Cheama with its baby cub perched on its back. Both the bears are looking to the left with turquoise inlaid eyes in expressive faces. Lance has incised fur all over the bears' bodies with feet carved in the round on the mother bear. A cub sitting on their mother's back primarily signifies a safe and secure mode of transport and protection. The Zuni believe the bear is endowed with curative powers, strength, adaptability and courage - powers that can influence both the spiritual and physical realm. Animals carved with their offspring suggest the bond that occurs between the parent and the child at its early inception; no matter the species.
