Cuprite / Sonoran Sunrise Buffalo Dancer by Kevin Chapman - Zuni Fetish

$ 325.00

A copper Sonoran Sunrise and minimal maroon colored cuprite buffalo dancer carved by Kevin Chapman. The dancer holds a rattle in one hand and a bow in the other. His face peaks out from under the buffalo head/mask, letting you know that he is a social dancer - for all the Kiva dancers wear masks that cover their faces. The buffalo dance is not a traditional Zuni dance per say, but it is performed in Zuni to strengthen the tribe. The prayers through song and dance are for the entire universe and all living beings. The movement of the dancer illustrates the purpose of the dance - expressing thankfulness; calling on the spirit of the buffalo for healing, strength & prosperity.
